Lucara Diamond Corp. has made headlines with the recovery of a stunning rough diamond weighing an astonishing 1,094 carats from its wholly owned Karowe Mine located in Botswana. This extraordinary find underscores the mine’s reputation for producing some of the world’s largest and most valuable diamonds.
The newly recovered diamond closely resembles the remarkable 692-carat stone announced in August 2023, which was subsequently polished by HB Antwerp. That diamond garnered significant attention after yielding polished gems that fetched over US$13 million at auction. Continuing their successful partnership, Lucara has confirmed that the 1,094-carat diamond will also be entrusted to HB Antwerp for polishing, promising further excitement in the diamond market.
This diamond marks the sixth recovery of over 1,000 carats by Lucara, highlighting the company’s impressive ability to discover large, high-value stones within the EMPKS ore type found in the South Lobe of the Karowe Mine. The exceptional size and quality of this diamond not only reflect the unique geological characteristics of the Karowe ore body but also reinforce Lucara’s standing as a premier producer of large, high-quality diamonds.
William Lamb, President and CEO of Lucara, spoke about the significance of this remarkable recovery, stating, “The recovery of this exceptional 1,094-carat diamond is a testament to Karowe’s remarkable potential and further validates our investment in the underground expansion project. These ongoing discoveries of large, high-value diamonds exemplify the consistent quality of our resources and their ability to generate substantial returns. As we advance with our underground development, we are increasingly confident in Karowe’s capacity to produce these legendary diamonds for years to come, solidifying our position in the high-end diamond market.”
This latest discovery not only enhances Lucara’s portfolio but also contributes to the broader narrative of the diamond industry, where large and unique stones command premium prices and attract significant global interest. As Lucara continues to explore and develop the Karowe Mine, the potential for further remarkable discoveries remains high, ensuring the company’s ongoing prominence in the diamond sector.
