Powering the Future: Ghana-Côte d’Ivoire Interconnection Project Receives Green Light

In a significant stride toward regional energy integration, funding has been approved for a transformative power interconnection project between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. With a secured investment of US$221.5 million, this initiative marks a milestone in West Africa’s quest for energy security and economic growth.

At the heart of this development is the construction of a 245km 330kV transmission line linking the Dunkwa II substation in Ghana to the Bingerville substation in Côte d’Ivoire. This ambitious infrastructure, slated for construction in 2027 and set to be operational by 2029, will significantly enhance cross-border electricity exchange. As the second interconnection between the two nations, the project is poised to boost power transfer capacity, ensure a stable electricity supply, and pave the way for future energy collaborations.

This initiative is not just about power transmission; it is a cornerstone of the broader West African power integration agenda. By linking national grids, countries can leverage surplus electricity, stabilize supply fluctuations, and create a more resilient regional power market. Improved access to electricity will catalyze industrial development, stimulate economic activities, and enhance the quality of life for millions across the region.

The Ghana-Côte d’Ivoire power interconnection project exemplifies the essence of regional cooperation in tackling Africa’s energy challenges. As construction gears up in 2027, this investment underscores the commitment of both nations—and their partners—to a future powered by reliable, accessible, and sustainable energy.

With such transformative projects underway, West Africa is steadily advancing toward a unified power network, one that will serve as a catalyst for economic progress and regional stability. The Ghana-Côte d’Ivoire interconnection is more than just an infrastructure project—it is a bold statement of intent, signaling the dawn of a new era in West African energy cooperation.
