Sandvik Rock Processing is deepening its presence across Africa by delivering integrated solutions that combine a wider product portfolio with stronger customer engagement. The company’s strategy centers on providing clients with a single point of contact, streamlining access to equipment, services, and technical expertise.
According to Tarynn Yatras, Vice President Sales Area Africa for Sandvik Rock Processing, the ability to bring together stationary and mobile crushing units, vibrating screens, screen media, and attachment tools such as rock breakers positions the company to meet diverse operational demands. One of the strongest growth areas has been mobile crushing and screening, driven by demand from both large-scale mining operations and the continent’s expanding infrastructure projects. The 2024 appointment of South African distributors has further strengthened local support, ensuring that customers benefit from faster response times and improved service coverage.
Sandvik has placed significant emphasis on bundling recommended spare parts with each machine and ensuring that service capability is in place from the outset. The adaptability of mobile units makes them attractive for contractors who need flexible on-site crushing and screening solutions. Innovation is also steering customer interest, with Sandvik set to deliver its first electric-powered mobile crusher into Africa later this year. Electric and hybrid units are increasingly appealing to operators looking to reduce emissions, cut ownership costs, and benefit from simpler maintenance compared to traditional diesel-driven engines.
Another key focus area has been the repositioning of rock breakers. Instead of treating them as optional add-ons, Sandvik now regards them as strategic elements within its broader solutions portfolio. These tools are being applied across multiple scenarios—from fixed installations at crusher feeds to mobile use in open pits following blasting.
Underpinning this expansion is a commitment to technical support throughout the equipment lifecycle. Sandvik has invested in training, process optimization, and customer audits, ensuring that technical expertise is embedded within operations. This approach has helped reduce ownership costs for clients. In one project, the company developed 25 different flow sheets before presenting a solution that achieved the client’s goals with four fewer crushers than a competitor’s proposal—significantly lowering both capital and operating costs.

Collaboration with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners on greenfield and brownfield projects continues to grow, while infrastructure development remains a steady driver of demand. Graduate training initiatives, such as the programme underway in West Africa, are also helping to develop a pipeline of future engineers and technicians.
“Across all our territories, we are bringing expertise and infrastructure closer to customers, with service at the heart of our strategy,” Yatras says. By aligning innovation with customer-focused support, Sandvik Rock Processing is well-positioned to strengthen its role in Africa’s mining and infrastructure sectors.
